You might have noticed that there is a lot of logging activity going on these days around Routt County. This is all very important even though you might not like the looks of it or it gets in your way when hiking or biking. There are several groups including the US Forest Service, State Forest Service and businesses working on removing the dead beetle kill pines that encompass our vast forest.
It is important that they are removed to prevent human injury if they are to fall. So, when you are recreating take note of what is above you, be patient if there is debris in the roadway from logging because these trees need to be removed.
If you really want to make a difference and see your efforts grow throughout your lifetime, join hundreds of other volunteers on June 26th for Re-Tree Colorado where we will plant thousands of trees in one day! Get a group together because it is going to be a great day followed by food, entertainment and there is even a free concert at Howelsen that night. For more info visit www.retreecolorado.com

If you like water sports, music, shopping, dining deals, hiking, biking…lollygagging then you might want to head to Steamboat. We have a lot going on this weekend and if the weather holds out like it is today, you will be very pleased.
The water events include kayakers and crazy water dogs who don’t know any better as their owners make them fetch in the Yampa. Good times for humanoids and canines. Check the calender of events in the linked article for details.

Kid on skis being pulled by horse down Mainstreet Steamboat!
Fireworks on Howelsen Sat night. Special feature Lighted Man!
This is by far one of the most fun weeks you can spend in Steamboat Springs. The near century old Winter Carnival begins this week and even more meaningful as we have an Olympic Send-off on Friday! We are a town proud of our Olympians and for a very good reason…a lot of them train here and/or were born here. Where else do you get to see a mainstreet shutdown with snow brought in, wild west horses, kids begin pulled on skis, the only marching band on skis and a man that skis down a hill shooting off fireworks from his body? If you live on the front range, you can still find a room and if you are interested in real estate I will be in town too to show you around.
Several articles about Winter Carnival linked on my website.
I hope to see you around town!

This doesn’t have much to do with real estate, other than this is just one thing you might expect if you live in Steamboat! It was disclosed that there was a moose in the area, so of course with caution (because they can be super aggressive) a moose hunt ensued. After a short while, the subject was spotted. Big cow laying down eating her curds and whey…then after some disruption from neighborhood dog and snowplow she stood up! Decided for a last chance photo op and then left her alone because she was large and I have many friends that have been charged. Not interested in starting out the new year that way!
Snow is falling…real estate opportunities abound…and occasional wildlife viewing!
Happy New Year!

On this snowy day in Steamboat, I couldn’t resist sharing this photo again. One of the coolest experiences I’ve had in my years here. Momma and her three cubs in my backyard!

Eat your heart out and get up here. There is still time to see the beauty of fall in NW Colorado. Pics taken from a hike up Mad Creek on Monday. Fabulous. Glad I waited 3 years to hike that…not! It is incredible up there with a mix of alpine, rocks, canyon-like terrain and COLORS!
